XFOR: MCIS Allows Additional ASCII Characters in Newsgroup Names (184721)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Commercial Internet System 2.0
This article was previously published under Q184721 SUMMARY
Microsoft Commercial Internet System 2.0 NNTP server allows additional
ASCII characters to be placed in a newsgroup name. These characters are:
"=" , "@" , "+" , "-" , "_".
Although these characters are eligible to be in a newsgroup name, there
may be compatibility problems with legacy NNTP servers. Some NNTP servers
require that the first character of a newsgroup name exclude these special
characters, which may cause problems during newsgroup replication.
NOTE: Microsoft Commercial Internet System 2.0 allows any of these
characters to be placed as the first character of the newsgroup name.
