182274 OL98: How to Update Existing Items to Use a New Custom Form

If you use the Omsgclas.doc utility to change the message class of all of the items in a folder, this may cause unwanted side effects. First create a temporary folder and copy all of the items you wish to export to this folder. Use the Omsgclas.doc utility to change the message class of the items in the temporary folder and then use the import/export converter to export the items from the temporary folder. This will ensure that your original folder is not affected by this process.

Create a Temporary Folder

To create a folder to temporarily store items, follow these steps:

  1. Determine where to place the temporary folder; create the folder as a subfolder of the folder where the items are currently located.
  2. Right-click the folder that will contain the temporary folder and on the shortcut menu, click New Folder. Type a name for the folder, making sure the Folder Contains box is set to the appropriate type items, and then click OK.

Copy the Selected Items to the Temporary Folder

To copy the items into the temporary folder, follow these steps:

  1. Click to select one of the items you want to copy.
  2. On the Edit menu, click Select All.
  3. On the Edit menu, click Copy to Folder. Click to select the temporary folder previously created and click OK.
Before using the Omsgclas.doc utility, make sure to select the temporary folder you created. When using the utility, specify that it should use the currently selected folder instead of your default contact folder.
