The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Project 98 for Windows
This article was previously published under Q184673 SYMPTOMS
In Microsoft Project 98, when you paste link information from Microsoft
Word to Microsoft Project and subsequently add more data to the source in
Word, you may receive one of the following error messages in Microsoft
Project.
Windows 95
This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down. If the Problem persists, contact the program vendor.
When you click Details, you receive the following error message:
WINPROJ caused an invalid page fault in module WINPROJ.EXE at <address>.
Windows NT
An application error has occurred and an application error log is being generated.
Exception access violation (0xc0000005), Address <address>
CAUSE
This behavior occurs when you have one or more OLE links from Microsoft
Word to Microsoft Project and you then add data to the source data in
Microsoft Word. When Microsoft Project updates the linked information, you
may receive the error message.
WORKAROUND
To work around this behavior, if you need to add additional information to
the source data of the OLE link in Microsoft Word, follow these steps:
- Break the paste link(s) in Microsoft Project:
- On the Edit menu, click Links.
- Click the link.
- Click Break Link.NOTE: If you have more than one link, you may have to break all of the links to Word.
- Modify the source data in Microsoft Word.
- Re-create the link by copying the data in Word and paste linking the
data back into Microsoft Project.
STATUS

Project listed above.
