PUB98: Outside Printing Fails When Trying to Create EPS File (184644)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Publisher 98

This article was previously published under Q184644

SYMPTOMS

When you create a PostScript file for a printing service in Microsoft Publisher, you may receive the following error:
You are attempting to create a multi-page EPS file. Please print a single page to ensure that EPS output is correct.

CAUSE

This error occurs if you have configured your PostScript printer driver to create an Encapsulated PostScript (EPS) file instead of a standard PostScript print file.

The PostScript printer driver generates this error when the driver detects that you are attempting to print more then one page of information to an Encapsulated PostScript (EPS) file. The error occurs any time you use the Outside Printing feature in Publisher to print to a PostScript printer that has been set up to generate an EPS file rather then a PostScript (PS) print file.

When you use the "Create File in PostScript" feature, multiple pages will be printed to the selected printer driver, resulting in the error described in the "Symptoms" section of this article.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem set up your PostScript printer driver to generate a standard PostScript print file. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. On the Windows Start menu, point to Settings, and click Printers.
  2. Click the PostScript driver you want to use to generate the file for the service bureau.
  3. On the File menu, click Properties.
  4. Click the PostScript tab.
  5. In the PostScript Output Format list, click Encapsulated PostScript (EPS).
  6. Click OK.
If your service bureau specifically needs an EPS file, do not use the Print to Outside Printer feature. Use the Print command on the File menu and print each page as a separate print job.
