This article was previously published under Q184629 SYMPTOMS
When you send a fax from Microsoft Outlook that contains a Microsoft
PowerPoint file as an attachment, you may receive the following error
message:
PowerPoint cannot print to the rendering system. It is not a valid
printer type.
CAUSE
Microsoft Outlook 97 does not handle the PowerPoint attachment properly
because PowerPoint handles the print and video drivers differently than
Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, you can fax the document from PowerPoint by
following these steps:
- On the File menu, click by Print.
- In the Printer Name list, select the fax driver you want to use and
click OK.
- Enter the fax destination information and follow the instructions on
your screen.
If you want to fax to a large distribution list and use Outlook, use one
of the following methods.
Method 1: Send the PowerPoint presentation to Word- Open your presentation and then click Black And White on the View menu.
- Preview the presentation to ensure its readability as a black and white
fax.
- On the File menu, point to Send To, and click Microsoft Word.
- Select one of the layouts, and click OK.
- On the File menu, click Save.
You can now send the file as an attachment in an Outlook message.
Method 2: Print to the Fax Driver in Outlook- Start or switch to Outlook.
- On the File menu, click Print.
- In the Printer Name list, select the fax driver you want to use and
click OK.
- Enter the distribution list information and follow the instructions on
your screen.
STATUS
