OFF98: Remove Office Utility Stops If Microsoft Word Is Running (184445)

If you run the Remove Office 98 utility while Microsoft Word 98 Macintosh
Edition is running, the program may stop responding (hang).
CAUSE
The Remove Office 98 utility may stop responding if all of the following
conditions are true:
- Word is running.
-and-
- A document that you have never saved or that you have modified but have
not recently saved is open.
-and-
- You run the Remove Office 98 program.
-and-
- You click Cancel when you are prompted to save the document.
-and-
- You try to start the Remove Office 98 program on the Application
menu.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, manually force the Remove Office 98 program to
quit. To force quit the program, press COMMAND+OPTION+ESC, and then click
Force Quit in the message that appears.
If you want to use the Remove Office 98 program, save any open documents in
Word, quit the program, and then run the Remove Office 98 program.
NOTE: If you press COMMAND+OPTION+ESC and you are prompted to force quit
Microsoft Word, click Cancel. Then, press COMMAND+OPTION+ESC to try to
force quit the Remove Office 98 program again.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products
listed at the beginning of this article.
