Common Dialog Box Buttons Change Language with Internet Explorer 4.01 (184416)

SYMPTOMS

When Internet Explorer 4.01 is installed on a French localized version of Windows NT 4.0 with the region set to "French (Canadian)," common dialog box buttons may be displayed in English instead of in French. This occurs in all programs that use common dialog boxes.

RESOLUTION

To work around this problem, change the region to French. To do so, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Regional Settings.
  3. Click French, and then click the "Set as system default locale" check box to select it.
  4. Click OK.
  5. Double-click Regional Settings.
  6. Click "French (Canadian)," and then click OK.
To resolve this problem, apply the fix available from Microsoft Technical Support.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.01 for Windows NT 4.0.

A supported fix is now available, but it has not been fully regression tested and should be applied only to computers experiencing this specific problem. Unless you are severely impacted by this specific problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Service Pack that contains this fix.
