XL98: Query Is Not Updated When File Is Opened (184387)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition
This article was previously published under Q184387 SYMPTOMS
When you open a file that contains a saved query, the query is not updated.
As a result, the region of the worksheet that contains the query is blank.
CAUSE
This problem occurs if the following conditions are true:
- You have saved a query in your worksheet.
-and-
- You click "Refresh data on file open" in the External Data Range
Properties dialog box.
-and-
- You click "Remove external data from worksheet before saving" in the
External Data Range Properties dialog box.
-and-
- You save the file in the "Microsoft Excel 5.0/95 Workbook" file format.
WORKAROUND
Follow these steps to work around the problem:
- Select a cell within the region of the worksheet containing the query.
- Click Refresh Data on the Data menu.
- Click Save on the File menu.
The worksheet will be populated with the result set from your query. The
worksheet will be populated with the result set from your query the next
time that you open the file. However, the query will not be refreshed the
next time that you open the file.
The "Refresh data on file open" and "Remove external data from worksheet
before saving" options are not available in earlier versions of Microsoft
Excel. As a result, these features are not available when you save your
file to the "Microsoft Excel 5.0/95 Workbook" file format.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products
listed at the beginning of this article.
