XL98: Computer Stops Responding When You Run Microsoft Query (184376)

When you run Microsoft Query from Microsoft Excel and you switch from Query
back to Excel, your computer appears to stop responding (hang).
CAUSE
This problem may occur when the following conditions are true:
- You start Query from Excel.
-and-
- You switch from Query to Excel.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, press the ESC key when the computer appears to
stop responding. If this does not work the first time, try pressing ESC
multiple times. When your computer responds to the ESC key, you receive the
following message:
Microsoft Excel did not receive any information from Microsoft Query.
When this dialog box appears, click OK. After you return to Excel,
Microsoft Query is active, but it does not return any data to Microsoft
Excel.
Before you run another query, switch to Microsoft Query by clicking the
Query icon on the Application menu. In Microsoft Query, click Cancel in the
Choose Data Source dialog box, and then click Quit on the File menu. After
you close Query, return to Excel and perform another query.
NOTE: If the Microsoft Office Manager is installed, you can also press
COMMAND+TAB to switch to Microsoft Query.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products
listed at the beginning of this article.
