If you delete a Dial-Up Networking connection from your Dial-Up Networking
folder, the deleted connection still appears when you are prompted to make
a connection to your Internet service provider (ISP) after starting Outlook
Express. Additionally you may receive the following error:
Unable to get the Dial up Networking information needed to dial
<account name.> Please check the properties for this connection in the
dial up Networking settings.
RESOLUTION
Verify that you have the appropriate Dial-Up Networking connection selected
for your Outlook Express account. To do so, follow these steps:
- In Outlook Express, click Accounts on the Tools menu.
- Click the Mail tab or the News tab, and then double-click the account
that you want to use.
- On the Connection tab, click the Dial-Up Networking connection that you
want to use in the "Use the following Dial-Up Networking connection"
box.
- Click OK, and then click Close.
This same behavior seems to effect Outlook Express 4.0, 4.01 and also the
Win98 version.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Outlook Express version
4.01 Service Pack 1 and Microsoft Outlook Express version 4.01 for Windows
98.
