SYMPTOMS

The Microsoft BackOffice Small Business Server Change Password Wizard may not properly reset the password properties of a user account.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. This problem has been corrected in Microsoft Small Business Server, 4.0a.

Steps to Reproduce Behavior

  1. Create a user with the Add User Wizard. Set the user's password and select the "This user is not allowed to change their password" option.
  2. Open User Manager and look at the user. The correct settings are selected: "This password never expires" and "This user is not allowed to change their password."
  3. Run the Change Password Wizard for the user. Set the user's password and accept the default "This user can change their password at any time" setting.
  4. Look at the user in User Manager. The settings have not been changed.
