OFF98: Installing or Removing Office 98 Disables File Sharing (183663)

SYMPTOMS

After you install Microsoft Office 98 Macintosh Edition, folders on your computer that you have shared may no longer be available to other users.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because File Sharing may be disabled when you install or remove Office 98. File Sharing is disabled when the following is true:
  • You use the Microsoft Office Installer to install Office 98, and you click Quit instead of Restart at the end of the installation process. -or-

  • You use the Microsoft Office Installer to remove Office from your computer. -or-

  • You use the Remove Office 98 program to remove Office from your computer. -and-

  • You have not yet restarted your computer.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, restart your computer.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
