OFF98: Cannot Drag Graphics from Microsoft Internet Explorer (182995)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Outlook Express 4.0c for Macintosh
- Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 for Macintosh
- Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition
- Microsoft Word 98 Macintosh Edition
- Microsoft PowerPoint 98 Macintosh Edition
This article was previously published under Q182995 SYMPTOMS
When you use the drag-and-drop method to copy a graphics file from
Microsoft Internet Explorer to a Microsoft Office 98 document, the graphic
does not appear in the document.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs because the drag-and-drop method of copying images is
not supported in Microsoft Internet Explorer for the Macintosh.
WORKAROUND
To insert a graphics file from Microsoft Internet Explorer to a Microsoft
Office 98 document, copy the graphics file and paste it in the document. To
do this, follow these steps:
- In Microsoft Internet Explorer, hold down the Control key and click the
graphics file.
- On the shortcut menu, click Copy Image.
- In the Microsoft Office 98 program, click Paste on the Edit menu.
MORE INFORMATION
The drag-and-drop method is supported for links only. To make file
directory pages work for drag-and-drop downloading, Microsoft Internet
Explorer "anchors" a portion of an image over the image itself.
An image has an anchor if it is declared between the <A> </A> Hypertext
Markup Language (HTML) tags. These tags are associated with the HREF tag.
When you use a drag-and-drop operation to copy an image that has a link (an
HREF tag), the link is copied to the local hard disk or document; the image
is not copied. Visually, the image normally has a blue border if it has an
anchor. However, the blue border can be altered by the page author.
