XL98: Cannot Automatically Create a Join by Using the Query Wizard (182994)

When you use the Query Wizard in Microsoft Excel 98 to add sample dBASE
tables, the following error message may appear:
The Query Wizard can not continue because it can not join the tables in
your query. You must join the tables manually in Microsoft Query by
dragging the fields to join between the tables.
CAUSE
This problem occurs when you use the Query Wizard to add two or more of
the sample dBASE tables in the Value Pack.
WORKAROUNDJoining Tables Manually Without Using the Query Wizard
To work around this problem, join the tables manually. To do this, follow
these steps:
- In Microsoft Query, click Add Tables on the Table menu.
- In the Add Tables dialog box, browse to the existing database folder and
select the table you want to add, and then click Open.
NOTE: Click Cancel to close the Add Tables dialog box.
- Click Joins on the Table menu and select the fields you want to join
from the list.
- Click Add, and then click Close.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Excel 98
Macintosh Edition. We are researching this problem and will post additional
information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
