OL98: (CW) You Cannot Create Entries in This Address Book (182957)

NOTE: These procedures only apply if you have installed Outlook with the Corporate Workgroup/Other option. This option allows you to use Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI) services. To determine your installation type, on the Help Menu click About Microsoft Outlook. In About Microsoft Outlook you should see "Corporate" if you have the Corporate Workgroup installation.

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Outlook 98 if you try to add a contact through the "Outlook Address book" you will receive this message:
You cannot create entries for this Address Book

CAUSE

The Address Book command, on the Tools menu is part of the Windows Messaging System and can only read Outlook contacts. It cannot add or modify contacts.

MORE INFORMATION

You cannot add Outlook contacts using the Address Book command on the Tools menu. You can add contact information to the Personal Address Book or the Outlook Contacts folder.

There are several ways to add contacts in Outlook, including:

  • Press CTRL+SHIFT+C to open a New contact window.
  • With the Contacts folder open, click the New Contact icon, or press CTRL+N.
  • On the File menu, point to New and click Contact.
