SUMMARY

Microsoft Publisher 97 does not provide an interface that allows you to add custom HyperText Markup Language (HTML) components (such as Web counters, feedback forms, and JavaScript), to a Web site created in Publisher. Publisher does not support inserting HTML code fragments. This article describes how you can add HTML code to your Publisher created Web site.

NOTE: Microsoft Publisher 98 has a feature that allows you to insert HTML code fragments into your Web site publication.

To add custom HTML to a Web site created in Publisher 97, publish your Web site and then edit the Index.html file and add the HTML code you want. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Publish the Web site by following these steps:
    1. On the File menu, click Publish Website To Folder.
    2. Select the folder you want to use for your content and click OK. Publisher will export your Web site to that folder.
  2. Edit the Index.html file and add the custom HTML code by following these steps.

    NOTE: You will not be able to edit this file in Publisher. Your original publication will not reflect these changes.
    1. On the Windows Start menu, point to Programs and then click Windows Explorer.
    2. Select the folder that contains your Web site. For example, select the following folder 
                C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Publisher\Publish
    3. Select the Index.html file.
  3. Hold down the SHIFT key and right-click the Index.html file. Click Open With on the menu that appears. From the list of programs, click NotePad and then click OK.
  4. Type the custom script you want to use. When you are finished, click Save on the File menu.
You can preview the HTML page by opening the file in your Web browser.
