XL98: Workbook Takes an Unusually Long Time to Open (182871)

When you open a Microsoft Excel 98 workbook, the process takes an unusually
long time.
CAUSE
This behavior may occur when you use wrapped text for a large number of
cells. It is most noticeable when you use wrapped text for 1,000 or more
rows.
WORKAROUND
To work around this behavior, limit the number of cells that use wrapped
text. To do this, follow these steps:
- Select the cells that use wrapped text.
- On the Format menu, click Cells.
- Click the Alignment tab. Under Text control, clear the Wrap Text check
box. Click OK.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products
listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem
and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it
becomes available.
