PPT98: Odd Behavior, Hang Exporting Meeting Minder Items to Word (182846)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft PowerPoint 98 Macintosh Edition
This article was previously published under Q182846 SYMPTOMS
When you attempt to export Meeting Minutes or Action Items from the Meeting
Minder dialog box to Microsoft Word, you may experience any of the following
symptoms:
- Word does not start.
- The PowerPoint toolbars and status bar disappear.
- You do not receive an error message indicating that the export failed.
- The presentation window loses focus.
- PowerPoint stops responding.
NOTE: After you dismiss the Meeting Minder dialog box, the PowerPoint toolbars
do not reappear although the presentation window and menu bar remain active.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs if you do not have enough available memory to start Word.
RESOLUTION
Free up some memory and try to export the text to Word again. To free up memory
shut down all programs that are currently running and try to export the text
again. If closing all programs does not free up enough memory, you may need to
turn on Virtual Memory (if it is not already on). To do this, follow these
steps:
- On the Apple menu, point to Control Panels, and click Memory.
- Turn on Virtual Memory, set the size and close the Memory control panel.
- Restart your Macintosh. The new Virtual Memory setting does not take
effect until you restart your computer. To do this, click Restart
on the Special menu.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products
listed at the beginning of this article.
