FP98: Search Does Not Return Any Articles in Discussion Web (182675)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft FrontPage 98 for Windows
- Microsoft Internet Information Server 4.0
- Microsoft Index Server 2.0
This article was previously published under Q182675 SYMPTOMS When searching for articles in a discussion web, no
articles are returned. CAUSE This behavior occurs on a Microsoft Internet Information
Server (IIS) 4.0 server running Microsoft Index Server.
When you
create a discussion web on a server running Index Server, the FrontPage Server
Extensions will use Index Server instead of the FreeWAIS search engine included
with the FrontPage Server Extensions.
FrontPage creates an Internet
Data Query (.idq) file in the _vti_bin directory for each page that contains a
Search Form component. This file contains information on which catalog file
Index Server should use and which folders Index Server should not search. The
.idq file that FrontPage creates restricts searching to folders beginning with
an underscore (_) character.
Because articles in a discussion web
are contained in the _discX folder, where _discX is the name of your discussion
Web, the articles are not searched. RESOLUTION To resolve this issue, you can install the updated version
of the FrontPage Server Extensions. For more information about obtaining and
installing the FrontPage Server Extensions, please see the following Microsoft
web site: http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/dnservext/html/fpovrw.asp
NOTE: You may need to recalculate hyperlinks after you install the new version
of the FrontPage Server Extensions. Also, you may need to stop and restart the
Index Server Service so Index Server will re-build your catalog files.
STATUS Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the
Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was
corrected the FrontPage Server Extensions version 3.0.2.1330.
