This article was previously published under Q182603 SYMPTOMS
You may notice that the TextArea function in the Internet Explorer 4.0
and 4.01 Java Virtual Machine (VM) does not update as quickly as in Internet
Explorer 3.02.
CAUSE The portion of the Java VM that implements the TextArea
function was written using the Microsoft Application Foundation Classes (AFC).
Earlier implementations (such as the Internet Explorer 3.02 implementation) use
Microsoft Win32 Application Programming Interface (API) functions. Because of
the AFC implementation, the Internet Explorer 4.0 and 4.01 Java VM TextArea
function performs slower than in earlier versions. STATUS Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft
Internet Explorer version 4.0 and 4.01. We are researching this problem and
will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes
available. MORE INFORMATION Microsoft Application Foundation Classes (AFC) is a set of
Java class libraries that provide user interface components and graphics
effects for use in Java-based programs and applications. AFC is a component
solution that conforms to Java Development Kit 1.1 specifications and is
licensed to be redistributed with the Microsoft Win32 VM for Java. AFC can also
be redistributed with Afc102.zip for browsers that only support JDK 1.0.2.
