OFF97: ErrMsg: MSCam Cannot Use the Audio Settings Specified (182555)

When you attempt to record an Audio-Video Interleaved (AVI) file in
Microsoft Camcorder, you may receive the following messages:
MSCam cannot use the audio settings specified
-and-
Capture failed; Please check for disk space and try again
CAUSE
This problem may occur when there is a conflict with other video capture
devices or when the video capture device is damaged.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, follow these steps:
- Uninstall Microsoft Camcorder by using Add/Remove Programs icon in
Control Panel. To do this, follow these steps:
- On the Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Control
Panel.
- Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
- Click Microsoft Camcorder and click Add/Remove.
This step starts the Setup program. - In the Microsoft Camcorder Setup dialog box, click
Remove All.
- On the Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click Multimedia.
- Click the Advanced tab and click Video Capture Devices.
- Select Screen Capture Device Driver for AVI and click Properties. Click
Remove.
- Disable any other listed Video Capture devices.
- Reinstall Microsoft Camcorder from the ValuPack folder on the
Microsoft PowerPoint or Microsoft Office compact disc.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products
listed at the beginning of this article.
