GW: File Size Does Not Decrease After Removing Graphics (182077)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Greetings Workshop 2.0
  • Microsoft Greetings Workshop

This article was previously published under Q182077

SYMPTOMS

As you add graphics to your project, the size of the file on your hard disk will increase. However, if you then remove graphics from the project, the size of the file will not decrease.

CAUSE

The OLE (Object Linking and Embedding) Compound File technology that Greetings Workshop is implementing does not automatically reclaim free disk space on file-save operations.

RESOLUTION

To release the extra disk space, save the file under a different name. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. Open the saved project.
  2. Click Other Options.
  3. Choose Save Or Rename My Project.
  4. Type a new name and click Save.
If you then want to delete the original file, follow these steps:

  1. From the main screen, click Saved Projects.
  2. Select the original card and click Delete A Selected Project.

STATUS

Microsoft is researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
