The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Outlook Express 4.01 for Windows 95
- Microsoft Outlook Express 4.0 for Windows 95
This article was previously published under Q182022 SYMPTOMS When you attempt to send or receive an e-mail message using
Outlook Express, you may receive the following error message:
MSIMN caused an invalid page fault in module
INETCOMM.DLL at address. CAUSE This error message can occur if you install the Windows
Sockets (Winsock) 2 Update, but do not update Transmission Control
Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) using the Vipup20.exe and Vtcpup20.exe
files.
This error message also occurs if you install Microsoft
Personal Web Server 4.0 from the Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Option Pack. This
version of Personal Web Server 4.0 includes the Winsock 2 Update.
RESOLUTION To resolve this behavior, download and install the
Vipup20.exe and Vtcpup20.exe files from the Microsoft Download
Center. The
following files are available for download from the Microsoft Download
Center: For

To work around this behavior, revert to
Winsock 1.1 by uninstalling the Winsock 2 Update. To do so, double-click the
Ws2bakup.bat file located in the
drive:\ windows\ws2bakup
folder, where drive is the drive letter on which the
Windows folder is located, and windows is the name
of the folder in which Windows is installed.
