XL98: "Surface Chart Must Contain Two Series" Error Creating Chart (180719)

In Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition, step 2 of the Chart Wizard
displays the following message instead of displaying a sample chart:
A surface chart must contain at least two series.
If you click Next, Microsoft Excel displays the same message, and step 2 of
Chart Wizard appears again.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs when the following conditions are true:
- In step 1 of the Chart Wizard, you select an xy (scatter) chart, and
then click Next.
-and-
- In step 2 of the Chart Wizard, you click Back.
-and-
- In step 1 of the Chart Wizard, you select a surface chart and click
Next.
WORKAROUND
To workaround this behavior, select the chart type that you want the first
time you select a chart when you use the Chart Wizard.
If you experiencing this behavior, click Cancel, start the Chart Wizard
again, and then select the chart type.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products
listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem
and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it
becomes available.
