PRJ: Unexpected Values in Cost, Actual Cost, or Remaining Cost (180295)

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Project, you may find unexpected task costs in the Cost, Actual Cost, and Remaining Cost fields.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when the following conditions are true:
  • You set the Cost (Total Cost) for the task to zero.

    -and-

  • The option "Actual costs are always calculated by Microsoft Project" is turned off.

    -and-

  • The task is between 0 and 100 percent complete.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, allow Microsoft Project to calculate Actual Costs by following these steps:
  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  2. On the Calculation tab, click to select the Actual costs are always calculated by Microsoft Project check box.
  3. Click OK.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Microsoft Project listed above.
