XL98: Chart Objects List Box Displays Only 200 Series (180263)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition
This article was previously published under Q180263 SYMPTOMS
In Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition, if you click the Chart Objects
list on the Chart toolbar, the list displays only the first 200 series in
the active chart even if the chart contains more than 200 series.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs because of a limitation of the Chart Objects list in
Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition.
WORKAROUND
You can select series beyond the 200th series by following these steps:
- In the Chart Objects list, select the 200th series.
- Press the UP ARROW key.
Each time you press the UP ARROW key, Microsoft Excel selects the next
series in the chart (201, 202, 203, and so on). When you use this method,
you can quickly select the series you want.
If you select the Chart Area, and then press the DOWN ARROW key, you can
cycle through the series in reverse order (255, 254, 253, and so on).
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products
listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem
and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it
becomes available.
MORE INFORMATION
In Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition, a chart may contain a maximum of
255 series.
When a chart contains many series, it may sometimes be difficult to select
a single series in the chart. You can use the Chart Objects list on the
Chart toolbar to select a particular item (a series, a legend, an axis, and
so on) in a chart.
However, because of a limitation of the list, the list can display only the
first 200 series in a chart.
