SYMPTOMS

When you save a workbook as an add-in in Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition, it is possible to choose a file format other than the add-in format.

WORKAROUND

When you save the workbook, verify that you are saving the workbook in Microsoft Excel Add-In file format. To save an add-in, follow these steps:
  1. Start Microsoft Excel 98.
  2. On the Tools menu, point to Macro, and then click Visual Basic Editor.
  3. In the Project window, click ThisWorkbook.
  4. On the View menu, click Properties window.
  5. Set the IsAddin property to True.
  6. On the File menu, click save Workbook1.
  7. Select Microsoft Excel Add-In in the Save Files as Type list.
  8. Click Save.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

Add-ins are programs that add optional commands and features to Microsoft Excel. Add-ins are installed, by default, in the Library folder in the Microsoft Excel folder. Loading an add-in makes the feature available in Microsoft Excel and adds any associated commands to the appropriate menus.
