PUB98: Invalid Page Fault Error when Deleting Border Art (179207)

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to delete a Border from the Border Style dialog box in Microsoft Publisher, you may receive the following message:
At least one object in your publication is using this border. Deleting the border will remove it from the object(s) as well as from your computer.
If you press Cancel, nothing happens. The object does not get deleted. If you press OK, you receive either of the following error messages:
MSPUB caused an invalid page fault in module MSPUB.EXE at 0157:00486037.

-or-

An Application error has occurred and an application error log is being generated.

When you return to Publisher, you will find that the Border Art has not been deleted.

CAUSE

The Border Art object you are attempting to delete is in use by a table or another object in the publication. When you attempt to delete the Border Art, Publisher attempts to remove the border from the other objects in your publication, and fails.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, remove the Border Art you want to delete from all objects in the publication before you attempt to delete it from the Border Style dialog box.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
