PUB98: Problems Saving Publication After Floppy Disk Removed (178811)
The information in this article applies to:
This article was previously published under Q178811 SYMPTOMS
If you open a publication from a floppy disk, remove the disk, and then try
to save your publication, the following message may appear:
Publisher cannot create a temporary working file.
NOTE: This error message may also appear if you have opened a
Publisher file from a floppy disk and attempt to save it to the hard
disk.
CAUSE
Unless the publication is very small, Publisher does not load the whole
publication into memory. If you try to save the publication, Publisher
needs to access the original on the floppy disk. If the disk has been
removed, Publisher fails. This problem is not limited to floppy disks; if
you open a publication from any type of removable disk, you may receive
similar symptoms.
RESOLUTION
Be sure the source disk, drive, or cartridge is available before you try to
save your publication.
To copy a publication that is on one floppy disk to another floppy
disk, use one of the following methods:
- Open the publication from the first floppy disk and save it to the
hard drive. Insert the new disk and save the publication to it.
- Copy the publication to the hard disk. Insert the new floppy
disk and copy the publication to it.
- If you have more than one floppy drive, copy or open and save the
publication from one floppy disk directly to the other.
