WD98: Style Name Cut Off in Style Drop-down List (178598)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Word 98 Macintosh Edition
This article was previously published under Q178598 SYMPTOMS
When you create a long style name or a style that is formatted with
expanded characters, that style name may be cut off in the Style drop-down
list on the Formatting toolbar.
CAUSE
The style name is too long or the expanded character formatting setting is
too large.
WORKAROUND
To see the entire style name on the Style list, use the Organizer to
shorten the name of the style. To do this, follow these steps:
- On the Format menu, click Style, and then click Organizer.
- Under Document name, select the style that has a long style name, and
then click Rename.
- Type in a new, shortened name for the style, and then click OK.
- If this style appears in the other window of the Organizer and you
want to change it in that template, click the style name and then
click Rename.
- Type in a new, shortened name for the style, and then click OK.
- Click Close.
If the style has been formatted with expanded characters, you may want to
decrease or remove that formatting. To do this, follow these steps:
- On the Format menu, click Style, and then under Styles, select the style
in question.
- Click Modify, click Format, and then click Font. Click the Character
Spacing tab.
- Beside Spacing, decrease the Expanded point size or change Expanded to
Normal.
NOTE: The Normal setting for Spacing removes the character spacing
format.
- Click OK twice and then click Close.
