The information in this article applies to:
This article was previously published under Q178227 SYMPTOMS
When you open a message from an Internet Mail server in Microsoft Outlook
98, there may be no information in the header of the message. The From:,
To:, Cc:, and Subject: lines are blank.
CAUSE
Line breaks are not properly specified in the message.
RESOLUTION
Use Outlook 97 or Outlook Express to read the message.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Outlook 98. We
are researching this problem and will post new information here in the
Microsoft Knowledge Base, as it becomes available.
MORE INFORMATION
The message does not follow the RFC 822 specification for line delimiters.
The RFC specification defines a carriage return (CR) followed by a line
feed (LF) as a line delimiter. In this case, the message uses just a CR
character as its line delimiter. Since Outlook 98 does not recognize this
as a line separator, it views the entire message as one line and cannot
correctly parse the header information.
