SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Project, if you remove all resources from a task, the Work assigned to the task is also removed.

Although you might expect that a Fixed Work task would not lose assigned work when a resource is removed, this behavior occurs for all types of tasks: Fixed Work, Fixed Duration, and Fixed Units.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, reassign the value of Work to the task after removing all the task's resources.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Microsoft Project listed above.

This problem was corrected in Microsoft Project 98 for Windows, Service Release 1 (SR-1).
