OFF98: Error Inserting Picture File from Floppy Disk (177830)

In the programs that are listed at the beginning of this article, if you
point to Picture on the Insert menu, click From File, select a picture
file, and then click Insert, you may receive the following error message:
This file was not recognized by any installed graphics filter.
CAUSE
This problem occurs when the following conditions are true:
- You format a floppy disk on a computer running Microsoft MS-DOS,
Microsoft Windows 95, or Microsoft Windows NT.
-and-
- You copy a picture file, such as a GIF or JPEG file, to the disk.
-and-
- You attempt to insert the picture file that is stored on the floppy disk
without moving the file to the hard disk.
NOTE: This problem does not occur if you format the floppy disk on a
Macintosh computer.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, use the Finder to copy the picture file from
the floppy disk onto the hard disk on the computer. After you do this, you
can insert the picture file that is stored on the hard disk.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products
listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem
and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it
becomes available.
