WD98: VBA Error Opening a Document Based on Contemporary Memo (177456)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Word 98 Macintosh Edition

This article was previously published under Q177456

SYMPTOMS

When you open a document based on the Contemporary Memo template, you may receive one of the following Visual Basic error messages:
Microsoft Visual Basic Error
Compile Error:
Can't find project or library

-or-

Could not open macro storage.
When you click OK to exit the error message, you will see the Contemporary Memo--This Document (Code) window. Closing this window will bring you to the document.

If you try to run a macro after exiting from the windows mentioned above, you will receive the following Visual Basic error message:
Can't execute code in break mode
Or if you try to create a new macro, the create button will not be available.

CAUSE

You will not be able to run another macro or to create a new one because the macro that failed when you tried to open the document based on the Contemporary Memo template will be in break mode.

WORKAROUND

To work around the problem of the failed macro being in break mode, follow these steps:

  1. On the Tools menu, point to Macro, and then click Visual Basic Editor.
  2. On the Visual Basic toolbar, click the Reset button.
  3. On the File menu, click "Close and Return to Microsoft Word."
