PRJ: Actual Costs Not Moved when Actual Start Is Changed (177008)

In Microsoft Project, if you change the Actual Start date of an in-
progress task, the Actual Cost for its resource assignment will not be
moved from the original Actual Start date but Actual Cost assigned directly
to the task will be moved to the new Actual Start Date.
CAUSE
This problem occurs when the "Actual costs are always calculated by
Microsoft Project" option is not selected. To locate this option, click
Options on the Tools menu, and then click the Calculation tab.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, use either of the following methods:
Method 1: If You Want Microsoft Project to Calculate Actual Cost- On the Tools menu, click Options.
- Click the Calculation tab.
- Click to select the Actual costs are always
calculated by Microsoft Project check box.
Method 2: If You Don't Want Microsoft Project to Calculate Actual Cost- Change the Percent Complete for the task to 0%.
- Set the new Actual Start Date.
- Reset the Percent Complete to its original value.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Microsoft
Project listed above.
