Step 1: Install the Microsoft Personal Web Server

1. Insert the Microsoft Project 98 compact disc in your CD-ROM drive.
2. Click Start, and then click Run.
3. Click Browse. Open the \ValuPack\Pwserver folder on the compact disc.
4. Double-click the pws10a.exe file. The Personal Web Server Setup program starts.
5. Follow the instructions on your screen.
6. If you are asked to restart your computer, click Yes.

Step 2: Configure Microsoft Personal Web Server

1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
2. Double-click the Personal Web Server icon.
3. Click the Administration tab.
4. Click Administration. Your Web browser opens a new settings file.
5. In your web browser, click WWW Administration. NOTE: if you receive an error message, verify that the URL is correct. For example, it should look similar to this: HTTP://<computer name>/htmla/htmla.htm If the URL is incorrect, remove any additional address information that may have been added to the address.
6. Click the Directories tab.
7. In the Action column for the C:\WebShare\wwwroot folder, click Edit.
8. In the Access section, click to select the Execute check box, and then click OK. On the WWW Administrator Directory tab, click OK.
9. Click the Start button, point to Programs, and then click Windows Explorer.
10. Click to select the Web server folder. NOTE: The Web server folder is where Microsoft Project stores files needed for the workgroup features. You can use the wwwroot folder, or you can create a folder to contain the Microsoft Project workgroup files, for example, c:\Webshare\wwwroot\Project98. In this example, all of the workgroup files will be located within the Project98 folder. You will need to create this folder.
11. On the File menu, click Properties, and then click the Sharing tab.
12. Click Shared As, and then click Add.
13. In the Name list, hold down CTRL, and then click the name of each workgroup member who will be receiving workgroup messages. If you want to allow all users access to the folder, select The World in the Name list. To find the names of workgroup members on other domains, click the domain name in the Obtain List From box.
14. Click Full Access, and then click OK.
15. Click Web Sharing, and then click to select the Share Folder For HTTP, Read Only, and Execute Scripts check boxes. Click OK.

Step 3: Prepare Microsoft Project to Use Web-Based Workgroup Features

1. Start Microsoft Project.
2. On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Workgroup tab.
3. In the "Default workgroup messaging for resources" list, click Web.
4. Enter the appropriate URL in the "Web Server URL (for resource)" box and the appropriate path in the "Web Server Root (for manager)" box.

   Web Server root (for Manager)	c:\webshare\wwwroot\project98

   For example, the URL might point to a Web server set up on the project manager's computer. If the network identification for that computer is ProjectManager, and the name of the folder created for holding the workgroup messages is Project98, then the URL for that computer would be as follows: http://projectmanager/project98
5. Click OK.
