ACC97: FollowHyperlink Method Uses Current Instance of Database (174350)

SYMPTOMS

If you use the FollowHyperlink method to link to an object in the same Microsoft Access database, and you set the newwindow argument to True, the object will not appear in a new instance of Microsoft Access. The object will instead appear in the current window.

CAUSE

The newwindow argument of the FollowHyperlink method has no effect on links to Microsoft Access objects. If the object to which you are linking is in the same Microsoft Access database, the object will always appear in the current window. Conversely, if the object to which you are linking is in another database, the object will appear in a new window as another instance of Microsoft Access. In either case, setting the newwindow argument in the FollowHyperlink method to True or False has no effect.

Steps to Reproduce Behavior

Start Microsoft Access and open the sample database Northwind.mdb.

Create a new module and type the following procedure:

      Sub Test()

         Application.FollowHyperlink "","Form Categories",True

      End Sub

To test this procedure, type the following line in the Debug window, and then press ENTER:
Test
Note that, although you set the newwindow argument to True, the Categories form opens in the current window instead of opening in a new window.
