SYMPTOMS

When you uninstall Internet Explorer, some of the following options may revert to the Microsoft Windows 95 or Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 default settings:

Windows 95

  • Browse folders by using a single window that changes as you open each folder
  • Show all files
  • Display the full MS-DOS path in the title bar
  • Hide MS-DOS file extensions for file types that are registered

Windows NT

  • Browse folders by using a single window that changes as you open each folder
  • Show all files
  • Display the full path in the title bar
  • Hide file extensions for known file types
  • Display compressed files and folders with alternate color

RESOLUTION

To work around this issue, change these options manually to the settings you want to use. To do so, follow these steps:

Windows 95

  1. Double-click My Computer, and then click Options on the View menu.
  2. On the Folder tab, click one of the following options:

    • Browse folders by using a single window that changes as you open each folder
    • Browse folders using a seperate window for each folder
  3. On the View tab, in the Hidden Files box, click one of the following options:

    • Show All Files
    • Hide Files Of These Types
  4. On the View tab, click one or both of the following check boxes to select or clear them:

    • Display the full MS-DOS path in the title bar
    • Hide MS-DOS file extensions for file types that are registered
  5. Click OK.

Windows NT

  1. Double-click My Computer, and then click Options on the View menu.
  2. On the Folder tab, click one of the following options:

    • Browse folders by using a single window that changes as you open each folder
    • Browse folders using a seperate window for each folder
  3. On the View tab, in the Hidden Files box, click one of the following options:

    • Show All Files
    • Hide Files Of These Types
  4. On the View tab, click one or both of the following check boxes to select or clear them:
