PRJ98: Errors, Problems Linking Tasks in Consolidated File (173331)

In Microsoft Project 98, if you try to link tasks between projects in a
consolidated file, you receive the following error message:
You cannot make a task a predecessor of itself.
If this task is dependent on another task, enter the ID number of the task it depends on and any pertinent task relationship information.
You may also experience one of the following symptoms:
CAUSE
This problem occurs when you insert a file in a consolidated file that has the same name as another file.
WORKAROUND
To link tasks, use either of the following methods:
- Select the tasks you want to link together and then click Link
Tasks on the Edit menu.
- Select the tasks you want to link together and then click the
Link Tasks button on the Standard toolbar.
To change the type of relationship between tasks, follow these steps:
- Double-click the successor task. Or, select the successor task and
then click Task Information on the Project menu.
- Click the Predecessors tab.
- In the Type field, select the relationship type you
want.
- Click OK.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Microsoft
Project listed above.
