PRJ: Changes to File Not Saved in Consolidated Project (173319)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Project 2000
- Microsoft Project 98 for Windows
This article was previously published under Q173319 SYMPTOMS
In Microsoft Project, when you use an inserted project as a resource pool within a consolidated file, you will not be prompted to save changes to the resource pool. When the consolidated file is closed, the changes to the resource pool will be lost.
Also, the Update Resource Pool and Refresh Resource Pool commands on the
Resources submenu on the Tools menu are unavailable.
CAUSE
If one of the inserted projects in a consolidated file is also a resource pool used by the consolidated file it will be opened read-only in a separate window and you will not be asked to save changes even though it has been opened as read-only. Any changes made to the resource pool file will be lost.
WORKAROUND
To save changes to the resource pool file, open it with read-write access,
following these steps:
- Open the consolidated file.
- In the Open Resource Pool Information dialog box, click
Open resource pool to see assignments across all
sharer files.
- In the Open Resource Pool dialog box, click Open resource pool read-write so that you can make
changes to the resource information.
NOTE: This will prevent others from updating the pool with new
information.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Microsoft
Project listed above.
