XL97: Excel Crashes When You Open Scenario Manager on a Protected Sheet (173311)

In Microsoft Excel, if you try to open Scenario Manager, you may receive one of the following error messages.
Microsoft Windows 95 or Microsoft Windows 98
This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down.
If the problem persists, contact the program vendor.
If you click Details, you receive an error message similar to the following:
Excel caused an invalid page fault in module Excel.exe at 0137:3021b740.
Microsoft Windows NT 4.0
Excel may unexpectedly quit without displaying an error message.
Microsoft Windows 2000
EXCEL.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program. An error log is being generated.
If you view the Application Log in the Event Viewer, you see a message similar to the following:
The application, excel.exe, generated an application error. The error occurred on Date @ Time. The exception generated was c0000005 at address 3021BFF7 [<nosymbols>]
where Date and Time are the date and time when the error occurred.
CAUSE
This problem may occur when all of the following conditions are true:
- You create a scenario and select the Hide check box.
-and-
- You protect the worksheet, and select the Scenarios check box in the
Protect Sheet dialog box.
-and-
- You only have one scenario in the worksheet.
RESOLUTION
To prevent this problem, create more than one scenario in your worksheet.
Selecting the Hide option will not cause Excel to stop responding if you
create two or more scenarios.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products
listed at the beginning of this article. This problem no longer occurs in
Microsoft Excel 2000.
