The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Publisher 97
- the operating system: Microsoft Windows NT 4.0
This article was previously published under Q168900 SYMPTOMS
If you run Microsoft Publisher 97 under Windows NT workstation, version
4.0, the Font Color and Object Color buttons on the Format Toolbar may
not work correctly. For example, when you select some text or a
drawing object and then click one of these buttons, the color list
appears but disappears immediately and the selected text or object
turns purple.
CAUSE
Your mouse is configured to automatically snap to the default button
in dialog boxes. This is one of the options you can set in the Windows
NT 4.0 Mouse Control Panel and also in the Microsoft IntelliPoint
Software, version 2.0.
RESOLUTIONMethod 1: Turn Off the Mouse Snap Option
If you are using the Microsoft IntelliPoint driver which ships with
the Microsoft IntelliMouse, follow these steps:
- On the Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click the Mouse icon.
- Click the StepSavers tab.
- Click to clear the "Automatically Move Pointer To Default Button Or
Center of Dialog Box" check box.
- Click OK.
If you are not using the Microsoft IntelliPoint driver, follow these
steps instead:
- On the Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click the Mouse icon.
- Click the Motion tab.
- Click to clear the "Snap Mouse To the Default Button in Dialogs"
check box.
- Click OK.
Method 2: Hold the Mouse Button When Selecting the Color- Select the text, drawing object, or frame you want to change.
- Position the mouse pointer over the Font Color button or the Object
Color button.
- Press and hold the left mouse button.
The color list is displayed as long as the mouse button is pressed.
- Position the mouse pointer over the color you want to use and then
release the mouse button.
The color list disappears and the color you selected is applied to
your text, drawing object, or frame.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products
listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was corrected in Microsoft
Publisher 98.
