PI: Text Items Appear Garbled or Unreadable (166966)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Picture It! 1.0

This article was previously published under Q166966

SYMPTOMS

When you use Microsoft Picture It! parts of the Help topics, Camera Tips, or certain headings may appear garbled, too small, too large, or hard to read.

CAUSE

Picture It! uses specific fonts for online Help, Camera Tips, and certain headings. If these fonts are missing or corrupted, a similar font is substituted. The substituted font may produce the symptoms descibed above.

RESOLUTION

Look for these fonts in the \Windows\Fonts folder
    Font Filename Use
    ---- -------- ---
Comic Sans MS comic.ttf online Help and Camera Tips
Comic Sans MS Bold comicbd.ttf online Help and Camera Tips
Tw Cent MT Bold tcb___.ttf Help and various headings

If the fonts are present but don't display properly, delete them before reinstalling. If the fonts are missing, restore them by reinstalling Picture It!.

MORE INFORMATION

If the Comic Sans MS font is missing, Picture It! substitutes Comic Sans MS Bold. If both Comic fonts are missing, Picture It! substitutes a light script font.

Tw Cent MT Bold is used in online Help for headings such as the Contents screen where it says "Contents, Step-by-step projects, Using Picture It!". If the Tw Cent MT Bold font is missing, the system substitutes Arial.
