BUG: Link View Shows Links in PLAINTEXT Tag (166662)

SYMPTOMS

Link View shows links that are defined inside the PLAINTEXT tag, even though they are not truly links.

CAUSE

Link View discovers links in all non-commented HTML.

RESOLUTION

Do not put link text inside the PLAINTEXT tag.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a bug in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

Steps to Reproduce Behavior

Use the following code to reproduce the problem:
   <plaintext>
      Links inside of <plaintext> </plaintext> are not treated as links by
   browsers:
      <a href="ThisIsNotARealLink.htm">Not a real link</a>
   </plaintext>
				
The link above is treated by browsers as plain, non-linked text.
