PPT97: Error Inserting PowerPoint Object Into Corel Presents 6.0 (164265)

SYMPTOMS

You receive the following error message when you attempt to insert a PowerPoint 97 slide or presentation object onto a slide in Corel Presents version 6.0:

Failed to create object. Make sure the object is entered in the system registry.

This error occurs when you attempt to insert either a PowerPoint 97 Slide object or a PowerPoint 97 Presentation object using the New Object command on the Insert menu in Corel Presents.

CAUSE

When you insert an object in Corel Presents, you must draw a frame to identify the boundaries of the OLE object you want to insert. When Corel Presents sends the frame size to PowerPoint, PowerPoint rejects the frame size instruction, Corel Presents aborts the OLE operation, and the error message is displayed.

RESOLUTION

You can embed a PowerPoint 97 Slide object or a PowerPoint 97 Presentation object into a Corel Presents presentation, using these steps:

Start PowerPoint 97 and create the slide or presentation you would like to add to your Corel Presents document.
On the View menu, click Slide Sorter.
Select one or more slides.
On the Edit menu, click Copy.
Start (or switch to) Corel Presents.
On the Edit menu, click Paste.

An image of the first slide you selected appears.

You can edit the embedded PowerPoint object without receiving the error: To edit a PowerPoint Slide object, double-click it. To edit a PowerPoint Presentation object, select the object, point to Presentation Object on the Edit menu, and then click Edit.
