ACC97: Removing Earlier Version Components Deletes Files on Server (163841)
The information in this article applies to:
This article was previously published under Q163841 Moderate: Requires basic macro, coding, and interoperability skills.
SYMPTOMS
If you have a workstation installation of Microsoft Access 2.0 or 7.0, and
you choose to remove components from the earlier versions when you install
Microsoft Access 97 locally, some Microsoft Access 2.0 or 7.0 files are
removed from the server. The administrative setup on the network server no
longer works.
NOTE: This does not occur if the user who is installing Microsoft Access
97 locally does not have permission to delete the files from the
administrative installation folder on the server.
RESOLUTION
You must remove the damaged administrative installation on the network
server and reinstall it.
If you want to avoid deleting files from the server, do not select to
remove the earlier version components when you run Microsoft Access 97
Setup, or verify that you do not have permission to delete files on the
server before you begin.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Access 97.
