STOP 0xA Due to Buffer Overflow in Ndiswan.sys (163251)

SYMPTOMS

You may experience a STOP 0x0000000A on a Windows NT computer when copying files via RAS over a SLIP (Serial Line Interface Protocol) connection.

CAUSE

If the SLIP client sends a packet that is greater than MAX_MRRU, Windows NT does not check for it and the buffer allocated overflows causing the trap.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows NT 4.0 or Windows NT Server 4.0, Terminal Server Edition. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Windows NT 4.0 and Windows NT Server 4.0, Terminal Server Edition. This problem was first corrected in Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 4.0 and Windows NT Server 4.0, Terminal Server Edition Service Pack 4.
