TMGR: Multiple People Assigned and Zero Work Assignments (163097)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Team Manager

This article was previously published under Q163097

SYMPTOMS

When assigning multiple resources using the People Drag-and-Drop Tool to a task with either unassigned or overloaded work, the resource assigned first will be assigned the total of unassigned work and/or overloaded work. Other resources assigned at the same time will have zero work assigned to them.

CAUSE

When using the People Drag-and-Drop Tool to assign people to tasks, overloaded and unassigned work will not be calculated until the people are assigned. If multiple people are involved, Team Manager treats the assignment as if one resource was assigned, and gives all the work to the first person assigned.

RESOLUTION

There are two possible workarounds:

Method 1

If the People Drag-and-Drop tool is your preferred method, dragging one person at a time will allow both unassigned and overloaded work to be calculated for each new assignment. This will allow the addition of other resources and to have the remainder of work assigned to them.

Method 2

In the Task Views for the task, under the People Assigned column, use the People drop-down. This will allow for individual work values to be adjusted for each person assigned.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
