OL97: Sent Mail Disappears with Focal Point Extensions Loaded (163089)

SYMPTOMS

In Outlook, the following symptoms may occur:
  • If you send a message, the message may seem to disappear; it does not appear in the Outbox or Sent Items folders. -or-

  • If you send a message, when the recipient receives the message it may not contain any text in the Subject or Body fields. -or-

  • If you save a message to the Drafts folder, the text in the body of the message is lost and only the To and Subject fields still contain information.
NOTE: If you share the same Exchange Server mailbox with Outlook 98 or Outlook 2000 clients, Outlook 97 only has a default Drafts folder.

CAUSE

These symptoms can occur if you have Global Village Communication's Focal Point extensions on your system. Focal Point is software that integrates e-mail, voicemail, fax paging, data communications and Internet access. Focal Point software can come preinstalled on your computer.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use the Outlook Add-In Manager to disable the Focal Point extensions:
  1. In Outlook, click Options on the Tools menu to open the Options dialog box.
  2. Click the General tab, and then click Add-In Manager to open the Add-Ins dialog box.
  3. In the list of add-ins, click to clear any add-in that references your Focal Point software.
  4. Click OK, and then click OK again to close all of the dialog boxes.
  5. On the File menu, click Exit and Log Off.
  6. Press CTL+ALT+DELETE to open the Windows Task Manager.
  7. Make sure that the Mapisp32.exe program has stopped running. If it is still running, either wait for it to stop or end the task.
  8. Restart Outlook.
