PPT97: Opening Folder May Cause PowerPoint to Hang (162095)

SYMPTOMS

If you click Open on the File menu, and then try to open a particular folder from the Open dialog box, PowerPoint may stop responding.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if you have an outdated or corrupted Windows display driver and you click the Preview button in the Open dialog box.

When you open a folder in the Open dialog box, and click the Preview button, PowerPoint tries to display a preview of the first presentation in the folder. If you are having problems with your Windows video driver, the preview may not display and PowerPoint may stop responding.

RESOLUTION

Before you open the folder that triggers the problem, click the Properties, Details, or List button in the Open dialog box. When you are in these views, PowerPoint doesn't try to display the preview.

To ultimately fix the problem, you should install the latest Windows display driver for your particular display adapter.
